Nov 23, 2017 · The XT-IDE rev 4 board is an improvement on the Glitch Works XT-IDE rev 3, which itself is a descendant of the original XT-IDE project from Jeff Leyda/Hargle and N8VEM/vintage-computer.com. I can write it succesfully. a) Your CAT28C256P ROMs should work. b) I program my XT-IDE eeproms using the configuration program which takes care of this. I wouldn't burn multiple copies of the ROM to the chip, but make sure the rest of the chip is blank so ROM-BIOS doesn't detect multiple BIOS signatures. Use a CF card. It's Silent, and more reliable than an old mechanical hard drive. This board is programmatically identical to the Lo-Tech XT-CF-lite and is therefore powered by the XT-IDE Universal BIOS, provided through an in-system re-programmable 32KB (addressable) flash-based ROM. Since the BIOS is only 8KB, 24KB is available for other purposes, and is byte-programmable. The XT-IDE is an 8 bit ISA adapter for attaching modern (ish) hard drives, DOMs, and CompactFlash to the ISA bus. When paired with the XT-IDE Universal BIOS, it allows IBM PC compatibles to boot from IDE drives otherwise not supported. The Glitch Works is currently supplying XT-IDE rev 4 boards, parts kits, and assembled units for hobbyist use.
